Daily Maintenance and Care of Swing Doors

2026-10-19

The core of routine maintenance for hinged doors consists of three aspects: cleaning based on material type, regular care of hardware, and structural inspection. Following these practices will significantly extend the door's service life and help prevent common issues such as sticking, air leaks, or deformation.

🧹 Cleaning by Material

‌Wooden Door Panels‌: Wipe with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral detergent; avoid strong acids or alkaline cleaners. Applying wood wax oil or beeswax once a month can help prevent cracking and warping.

‌Metal/Aluminum Alloy Frames‌: Wipe with a dry, pure cotton cloth. If cleaned with water, dry the surface immediately to prevent oxidation caused by prolonged moisture exposure.

‌Glass Door Panels‌: Dust regularly with a dry cloth. Periodically clean with a glass-specific detergent, then wipe dry with a lint-free cotton cloth to ensure no detergent seeps into the gaps around the glazing beads, which could cause deformation.

🔩 Hardware Maintenance

‌Hinges‌: Check the tightness of screws every three months. Apply 1–2 drops of silicone-based lubricant to the pivot points, then open and close the door repeatedly to distribute the lubricant evenly and eliminate squeaking.

‌Locks‌: If a lock cylinder sticks, do not use standard lubricating oil. Instead, apply a small amount of graphite powder (from a pencil lead) into the keyhole; this provides lubrication without attracting dust, which could otherwise worsen the sticking.

‌Handles/Connectors‌: Avoid touching door hardware with wet hands. Tighten all mounting screws quarterly to prevent them from becoming loose or wobbly.

📐 Structural Inspection

Inspect the weatherstripping (sealing strips) around the door frame annually. Replace any strips that show signs of aging, cracking, or detachment to prevent air leaks or water seepage.

If the door leaf sags or sticks during operation, loosen the hinge screws, use a wooden wedge to lift the bottom of the door leaf, and then retighten the screws to realign the door.

Avoid hanging heavy objects on the door leaf, as long-term stress can lead to permanent, irreversible deformation. 🌤️ Seasonal Targeted Maintenance

‌Plum Rain Season (Monsoon Season): Use a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity between 40% and 60%. Place moisture-absorbing agents near wooden doors, and promptly wipe away any condensation that forms on the door surfaces.

‌High-Temperature Summer: Prevent wooden doors from being exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods; draw curtains to block ultraviolet rays, which helps delay the fading and aging of the finish.

‌Low-Temperature Winter: In northern regions, apply felt strips along the edges of door frames to improve sealing. If locks begin to stick, switch to a low-temperature-resistant lubricant to prevent the grease from solidifying and hindering the operation of the mechanism.
